DEPORTATION CRISIS PROJECT

This is a humanitarian crisis and it will impact lives for generations ahead...

Recent months have seen a surge of ICE raids, including in Los Angeles, intensifying fear across immigrant communities. Families are being deported with little notice, separated without recourse, and rendered destitute overnight.  Solitary confinement of immigrants has skyrocketed: over 14,500 individuals were put in isolation between April 2024 and August 2025  exacerbating psychological trauma. We cannot wait for policy changes alone. The mental health crisis is unfolding now. Without immediate intervention, children’s development will be derailed, grief will calcify into despair, and families may never heal.

We are directly involved as this is a humanitarian crisis, and we provide our services (mental health support and resources) to the families left behind.

4WARDSTEPS – Rapidly responds in the midst of crises...

When a raid or deportation shatters a family, immediate stabilization is essential:

  • Crisis triage & intake: safe shelter, essentials, and coordination with social services
  • Trauma-informed grief counseling: culturally attuned therapy for parents and children to process loss, fear, and reattachment
  • Family reunification support: legal referrals, safe communication plans, and emotional scaffolding
  • Ongoing community care: peer support groups, resilience-building, and connection to long-term mental health resources
  • “Local impact” focus: we work in the U.S., within the communities affected, not just through distance

DATA

ICE raids do more than separate families. They wound psyches, fracture futures, and sow silent suffering across generations.

  • A child whose parent is detained or deported is more than twice as likely to meet criteria for PTSD symptoms later in life.
  • Children exposed to ICE raids or forced separation show elevated rates of anxiety, sleep disruption, aggression, withdrawal, and depression
  • ICE raids are intentionally sudden and militarized, designed to instill fear and control. The psychological “shock” during and after these interventions can have long-lasting effects.
  • Even U.S.-citizen children in mixed-status families suffer deep distress: in studies, children whose parents are arrested or deported show worse behavioral health and emotional outcomes than peers whose parents were unaffected.
  • The mental health toll doesn’t stop at children. US citizens or community members who know someone deported report significantly higher rates of anxiety, depression, and psychological distress.
  • Detained immigrants themselves often emerge with elevated prevalence of mental illness, PTSD, and lingering trauma, especially when held for long periods.
  • The pervasive fear of raids, in schools, workplaces, neighborhoods, creates chronic hyper-vigilance across communities, even for families not directly targeted

They were taken without warning.

We cannot respond with hesitation.

Trauma is being caused to millions!

We aim to rebuild trust, in self, in family, in community — and help survivors reclaim their sense of belonging and security.
